IRELAND, EDWARD J. Saginaw, MI Passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013. Age 88 years. Edward Jackson Ireland was born May 24, 1925 in Buckhannon, WV to Glen and Blanche (Post) Ireland. He met Norma Oxendale in California, and they were later married on February 28, 1946. She predeceased him January 12, 2012. Mr. Ireland proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was a life-time VFW member in West Virginia. Ed enjoyed amateur radio operating for over 60 years, and held memberships with the Amateur Relay Radio League, Saginaw Valley Radio Association, and the Quarter Century Wireless Association. Surviving are two sons and two daughters, Harry (Nancy) Ireland, Susan (Tom) Napolitano, Steven Ireland, and Nancy Ireland; one grandchild, Tiffany Ireland (Mike Ross); two great- grandchildren, Collin and Amelia. Ed had three sisters, Teresa Hutter, Katheryn Ireland and Glenda Meads. He also leaves many loving family members from the Oxendale family. Funeral service will take place 11 AM Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home, 1550 S. Midland Rd. (S-M47). Rev. Jerry Larkin will officiate. Military honors will be observed for the interment at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Freeland. Friends and family will gather at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Memorial offerings are suggested to the American Cancer Society .
