SVARA Contests

2006 CQ WW Phone Contest

Friday Evening, Oct 28, 6pm

Saturday Evening, Oct 29, 6pm

Sunday Afternoon, Oct 30, 2pm

We opened the SVARA radio station at the Red Cross for the CQ WW Phone Contest.  Just like the ARRL contest last spring, we took turns operating the stations and making contacts under our own call signs.  Control operators supervised Technician Class operators using the K8DAC call sign.

Mike Linton (N8XPS) made his very first HF DX contacts.  Joe Turner (K8CQF) was exceptionally happy with the 40 meter band this year and made contacts up and down the band.  Keith DeLong(N8XD) and Mike Jury (KD8AUZ via K8DAC) both made contacts with a very weak signal from Swaziland.  (And Mike was really happy that he talked with someone from the Azores (a place he remembers from the military.))

Countries Contacted:

Argentina, Aruba, Azores, Barbados, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Canary Islands, Ceuta & Melilla, Costa Rica, Cuba, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Finland, France, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Hawaii, Honduras, Hungary, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Madeira Island, Mexico, Morocco, Portugal, Revillagigedo / Socorro Island, Senegal, Spain, Swaziland, Trinidad/Tobago, Turks/Caicos, Virgin Islands

Over all, everyone that participated and visited were very enthusiastic and excited during the contest.  Congratulations to everyone that joined us!
